At the beginning of this year, I wrote about my one big resolution for 2023.
So far, things have been going surprisingly well, even if there have been a few times with more work than I would have wished for, but it has all been within reason.
Overall, I feel quite content with my workload and time management. In fact, the other day, when we were trying to find a date for the annual general meeting of our karate club, I realized that I had actually only a few dates blocked where I wasn’t available.
However, I have come to the realization that good time management also extends to the things I do for my business that I don’t get paid for.
One of these things is this blog.
When I started it 13 years and 937 posts ago (oh my!), I decided to write a post at least once a week. After all, in order to be relevant on social media, you have to show up regularly – or forget about it.
And I have done precisely that.
Week after week, I looked for pertinent topics to write about, with the goal of bringing value – and some fun – to the conversation surrounding languages, translation, and interpretation.
Even when I knew I would be out of the office, I prepared and scheduled a post (and sometimes several) in advance, so that there would be one every week regardless.
Lately, though, I have been finding it ever harder to come up with something every single week. I started to dread Thursdays – the day I have it scheduled in my agenda – and sometimes spend an hour or more just looking for a topic.
Not a very good use of my time.
So I have decided to break with the habit of posting here every week.
“Regular” just means “at regular intervals,” without specifying that interval.
Instead of every week, I am going to post here every other week, at least for now, and see how that affects my time management and – more importantly – my stress level. And if it turns out that I need to change it to every three weeks or even once a month, then I will do that.
Maybe sometime in the future, I will return to the weekly posts, but for now, I need to take it easier on myself and the pressure off.
And in any case, it’s a minimum, so writing more is always an option.
See you here in two weeks! 🙋♀️✋
